Terms of Service
By using CountryShape at countryshape.com, you agree to these Terms of Service.
1. Nature of the service
CountryShape is an informational and educational web tool for visualizing and comparing geographic areas. It is provided for general interest, teaching, and illustration. It is not professional surveying, legal, cartographic, or geopolitical advice.
2. Data limitations
Boundaries, names, statistics, and historical extents are compiled from third-party open and public sources (including OpenStreetMap, OpenHistoricalMap, Wikidata, and Wikipedia) and simplified for interactive use. We do not guarantee completeness, currency, or absolute accuracy. Coastlines, enclaves, disputed zones, and historical borders may be approximate.
3. Disputed territories and neutrality
Display of a boundary, label, or entity does not express endorsement of any sovereignty claim. CountryShape follows common cartographic conventions and source-data practice. Users are responsible for how they interpret and present comparisons.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the site, attempt to disrupt its operation, scrape it in ways that impose unreasonable load, or use it in violation of applicable law. You may share screenshots and recordings for lawful purposes, including education and media, subject to third-party attribution requirements described in the app’s Attributions section.
5. Intellectual property and attribution
The CountryShape application, branding, and curated presentation are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Geographic data and map components remain subject to their respective licenses:
- OpenStreetMap data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
- Historical data from OpenHistoricalMap and public-domain archives, where applicable.
- Basemap tiles via Protomaps using OpenStreetMap data.
- Leaflet map library (BSD 2-Clause License).
- Statistics and labels may incorporate Wikidata and Wikipedia content under their terms.
CountryShape geometry (draggable outlines) and the basemap (background tiles) come from different sources; see About and in-app Attributions for details.
6. Availability and disclaimer
CountryShape is provided “as is” and “as available.” We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CountryShape and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on map comparisons, shared links, or third-party content accessed through the service.
8. Third-party services
The site relies on third-party hosting, map tiles, geographic data delivery, and (when enabled) advertising networks. Your use of those services may be subject to their separate terms and privacy policies.
9. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use after the “Last updated” date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
